Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Beading Stitch
Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Customers are asked to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each respective option gives a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep hybrids that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on models with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the variants with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, making them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier people. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate movement nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Beading Stitch

Construction Helix Beading Stitch
All 9 of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be fairly similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending on the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine unique versions (and supposedly have a model for everybody). Helix Beading Stitch
Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change fabric to regulate temperature.
Comfort Layer – Up top, you will encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you’re likely to experience some gratifying body shaping. Even though it may seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness bed to make use of a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it produces quite a firm feel.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Since these coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which is going to be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more options.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and generates some top quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The firmer support foams and pocketed coils also help with re-positioning.
For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material here to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who want a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.
Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Side sleepers typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. Those who are lighter than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.
Last, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your spouse are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a bed called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.
Couples with differing body types or preferences may also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if neither of those options seem quite right, you may always have a look at the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be important for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it will illuminate just how bothered you will be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the bed will wake you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I would say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When purchasing a new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.
Even though you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you will reach the individually-wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast range of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel quite secure seated on the mattress.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.
Lying down, I also feel like I can get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll fall over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that’s meant for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the minute you click to purchase the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t what you wanted, you can return it for free, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Beading Stitch
The Helix Mattress includes an awesome 10-year warranty that covers flaws, but it has limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1” or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain that you clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
