Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. Helix Author
Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are asked to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress options; each respective option provides a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while individuals who weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with additional support.
Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with different preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Helix Author

Construction Helix Author
All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the mattresses have all of the foams – some only have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the purchaser. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Helix Author
Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some wonderful breathability. But, if you want something more amped up, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow response to pressure, which means you are likely to encounter some great body shaping. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to suppress the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this section of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also going to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last but not least, you will uncover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to give the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.
Firmness and Support
After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us talk about their varying feels and firmness levels.
The firmness of the Helix will differ widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or those who want a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight variants.
Most side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all of their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.
Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices may be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips do not dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Partners with differing body types or tastes may also select a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.
Keep in mind that if none of those options seem right, you could always have a look at the 4 other beds in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).
Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be important for all people, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Author
Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the quantity and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.
While purchasing a new mattress, the majority of men and women would like to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you may encounter some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you will hit the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secure seated on the bed.
In my view, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There may be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Laying down, I feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I will fall over or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix has great edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix Mattress is not any different. You customize the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it free of charge, and get a complete refund.
Should you return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. In fact, the company finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Author
Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a proper base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!
If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1” or longer, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it is recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.
For regular cleanup, it is suggested to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure that you wash using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
