Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured with polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified using polyfoam base layers. Helix Acquires Level Sleep

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Buyers are asked to complete a survey that asks for their height, weight, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other factors. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each respective variant offers a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter people may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while those that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these models have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Helix Acquires Level Sleep

Construction Helix Acquires Level Sleep

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be quite similar. The six core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer 9 different mattresses (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Helix Acquires Level Sleep

Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric to regulate heat.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will find a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some satisfying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam layer, it’s important to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system brings a supportive lift into the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you will discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This segment does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be very versatile and therefore best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more choices.

Laying down on the Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and produces some quality body shaping, while the other materials within the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also assist with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who want a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might want to check out the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. Those who are lighter than average or people in the market for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers should feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Finally, the manufacturer recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or partners that weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are substantially larger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 pounds.

Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences can also select a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those models feel right, you may always have a look at the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it will show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Helix Acquires Level Sleep

Based on my observation, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that movement from the other side of the bed will wake you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this hybrid. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

While you may experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you will find the individually-wrapped coils and find amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel quite secure sitting on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall over or be pushed off the bed. Overall, I believe the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually come with. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is delivered to your door. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it free of charge, and receive a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix does its best to find a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Helix Acquires Level Sleep

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Of course, you must be the original owner of the Helix to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your mattress begins to have an indentation of 1” or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleanup, it is advised to use cool water with gentle dish detergent to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain that you clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
