Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses made with dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced using polyfoam base layers. Happy Helix Pillow Review

Helix Sleep allows complete mattress customization. Buyers are urged to complete a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each individual model provides a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Happy Helix Pillow Review

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids with moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are ideal for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with differing preferences. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large range of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Happy Helix Pillow Review

Construction Happy Helix Pillow Review

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams utilized in order to achieve more/less support and more/less firmness. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the beds have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 distinct mattresses (and supposedly have a mattress for everyone). Happy Helix Pillow Review

Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I found it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you would like something more lavish, you can choose to swap out the standard cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase change material for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re likely to experience some great body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firmness bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it produces quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the individually wrapped coils underneath.

Support Layer – The bulk of the mattress consists of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section does not really affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us chat about their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on which variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional options.

Lying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer feels soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Most side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you’re wanting a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be mindful of pressure because they sleep with all of their weight on a tinier area. People who are smaller than average or people in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this is not their primary position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Last, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 lbs or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are significantly bigger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that’s constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with differing types of bodies or preferences may also pick a dual comfort model that pairs Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of those models seem right, you could always have a look at the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this will be significant for all people, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you’ll be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Happy Helix Pillow Review

According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help keep motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While buying a brand-new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it.

While you may experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to reach the pocketed coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the bed, the pocketed coils stop the mattress from collapsing too much beyond that. I feel very secure seated on the mattress.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has great edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that’s made for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix Sleep does its best to locate a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. Happy Helix Pillow Review

Helix Warranty

The Helix Mattress includes an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a suitable foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1” or more, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make certain that you clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
