Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Forbes Helix
Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Buyers are requested to complete a questionnaire that asks for their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress variants; each respective variant offers a unique combination of support and firmness:
- Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
- Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
- Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
- Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfortable on models with balanced support, while individuals that weigh 130 lbs or more tend to prefer the models with extra support.
Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing tastes. Last, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier people. This mattress has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.
My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Forbes Helix

Construction Forbes Helix
All nine of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.
Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based upon the foams used in order to achieve more/less firmness and more/less support. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer nine different models (and hopefully have a model for everyone). Forbes Helix
Below, I concisely discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.
Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more luxurious, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the brand’s UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material for heat regulation.
Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are probably going to encounter some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, oftentimes it gives quite a firm feeling.
Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll discover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the individually wrapped coils below.
Support Layer – Most of the mattress is made up of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to give additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.
Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer doesn’t affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.
Firmness and Support
After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s talk about their varying firmness levels and feels.
The firmness of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which version you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be very versatile and thus best-selling. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with additional choices.
Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and produces some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.
For those who sleep on their back, there is enough good comfort material in the Helix Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who want a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.
Many side sleepers should feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.
Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a tinier area. Those who are smaller than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher variants.
Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive stomach sleepers so they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.
Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners that weigh up to 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that’s created to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.
Couples with different types of bodies or tastes may also pick a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.
Bear in mind that if neither of those models feel right, you could always check out the four other variants in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, made for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).
Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is noticeable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for all buyers, those who sleep with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it will illuminate just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Forbes Helix
According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils which help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper afraid that motion from the other side of the mattress will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good choice for couples.
When buying a new mattress, most people would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.
While you may experience a little immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you will hit the individually-wrapped coils and find amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot beyond that. I feel quite secure seated on the bed.
In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is due to their recently updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfortable and safe. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.
Lying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.
100 Night Sleep Trial
One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically come with. Helix Mattress is no different. You customize the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to buy the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it free, and get a full refund.
If you do return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it is recycled instead. Forbes Helix
The Helix Mattress includes a generous 10-year guarantee that covers flaws, but it has some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the first owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.
Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to have a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!
If your Helix starts to have an indentation of 1” or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?
Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.
For regular cleanup, it’s advised to use cold water with gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be sure that you wash using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
