Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Does Helix Mattress Come In A Box

Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Buyers are urged to complete a questionnaire that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other factors. Based on these results, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following 6 mattress options; each respective variant provides a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel most comfy on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the variants with extra support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them ideal for couples with differing preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a wide assortment of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Does Helix Mattress Come In A Box

Construction Does Helix Mattress Come In A Box

All 9 of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 models, the construction will be rather similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses differ in density and firmness depending on the foams utilized in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all of the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the buyer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine different variants (and hopefully have a mattress for everyone). Does Helix Mattress Come In A Box

Underneath, I concisely talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you want something more amped up, you can elect to swap out the standard cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – On top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some great body contouring. Even though it may seem odd for a supposedly medium firm bed to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it is crucial to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t necessarily translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and create a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the structure, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, instead of “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to allow extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the mattress too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After having a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on the variant you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and therefore very popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep is happy to provide you with additional options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer is soft and generates some quality body shaping, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole upper spine in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more options for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Most side sleepers should feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, however, if you are needing less pressure while still going with a flexible medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a tinier region. Those who are lighter than average or those in the market for plenty of pressure relief may want to stay with the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their primary position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can ensure their hips do not dip and over-arch their spine.

Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 pounds or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with differing types of bodies or preferences may also pick a dual comfort model that combines Firm with Plush.

Bear in mind that if neither of these options sound quite right, you can always check out the four other models in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for many sleepers, those who doze with a spouse may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Does Helix Mattress Come In A Box

According to my research, Helix exceeds expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When buying a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they will feel as though they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you are going to experience some immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and experience great support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the foam compress as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the pocketed coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot . I feel quite secured seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There may be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and safe. Partners who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix Mattress is not any different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and in two weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. In fact, the company locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, they have it recycled instead. Does Helix Mattress Come In A Box

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the customer (like most guarantees ). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the warranty, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on the bed!

If your Helix begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, something that usually happens when low-density foams break down, you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your mattress.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cold water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure to wash using gentle circular motions, instead of rubbing.
