Helix Sleep sells hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores enhanced with polyfoam base layers. Casper Vs Helix Sleep

Helix Sleep gives you full mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following 6 mattress models; each individual model offers a unique combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Casper Vs Helix Sleep

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with extra support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them suitable for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Casper Vs Helix Sleep

Construction Casper Vs Helix Sleep

All 9 of the different iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, made up of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending on the foams used in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams used within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all of the variants have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique versions (and hopefully have a model for everybody). Casper Vs Helix Sleep

Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have exactly the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I found it to be thin and stretchy, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more amped up, you can choose to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is made up of a phase-change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll encounter a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, meaning you are likely to experience some satisfying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage does not always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it gives quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to suppress the sinkage of the comfort layer and establish a supportive, medium firm feeling as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to place the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since the coils are individually wrapped, they’re also likely to give extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you’ll discover a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This layer does not really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a look at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness of the Helix will vary widely depending on which variant you pick out. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and therefore exceptionally popular. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to oblige you with additional options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials within the mattress work to counteract this and create an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your back in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or those who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Most side sleepers should feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, however, if you are wanting a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Side sleepers typically need to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller region. Those who are smaller than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief might want to stick to the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel comfortable in the Midnight, especially if this is not their main position or they have a tendency to change things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers up to 350 pounds or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 lbs each. If you or your partner are significantly larger than average, Helix has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is constructed to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with different types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort option that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of those options sound quite right, you may always check out the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, slightly firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).

Motion Transfer

Now, let us talk about motion transfer, or the amount of activity that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. While this is going to be crucial for many buyers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Casper Vs Helix Sleep

According to my research, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space because of the amount and quality of foam it contains, in addition to the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that motion from the opposite side of the bed will bother you, then you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good option for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they are sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage in the uppermost foam layers, when you sink through these layers, you’ll find the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of individuals, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the coils stop the mattress from compressing too much beyond that. I feel quite secure sitting on the bed.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is due to their recently updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but laying on the side will feel comfy and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix is no different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. In fact, Helix finds a local place to donate it. If there’s no way Helix Sleep can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it’s recycled instead. Casper Vs Helix Sleep

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Needless to say, you should be the original owner of the Helix to make use of the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty will be valid. That means you will need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4” apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no turning, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress possibly once or twice a year to keep it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s suggested to use cool water along gentle dish detergent to clean any dirt or stains. Be certain that you clean using soft circular movements, instead of rubbing.
