Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using polyfoam comfort systems, dual-layer covers, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Casper Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Purchasers are requested to complete a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, sleep position, firmness preferences, and other options. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress options; each individual variant gives a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Casper Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Helix Sleep mattresses with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for side sleepers. While mattresses that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on models with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the variants with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers 2 mattresses with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with balanced support and targeted cushioning) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, making them great for couples with differing tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for bigger, heavier individuals. This variant has an extra layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable aspect conforms to sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the average hybrid. Casper Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Construction Casper Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

All nine of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction should be quite similar. The 6 core variants (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness based upon the foams utilized in order to attain more/less firmness and more/less support. The four different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the mattresses have all of the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique variants (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Casper Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Underneath, I quickly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change fabric for heat regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll discover a thick layer of memory foam. This material has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you’re likely to encounter some gratifying body contouring. Even though it may seem strange for a supposedly medium firm mattress to feature a memory foam layer, it’s crucial to remember that the feeling of deep sinkage does not necessarily translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you’ll uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and establish a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system brings a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are individually wrapped, they are also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to give the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to vary widely depending on which model you choose. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which will be quite versatile and thus best-selling. If you are more particular, however, Helix Sleep would be happy to provide you with additional options.

Lying down on the Midnight, the memory foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the other materials within the Midnight work to control this and create an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lumbar while supporting your whole back in a neutral position. For larger buyers or those who prefer a firmer mattress, there are two more models for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn variants.

Many side sleepers will feel totally comfy on the Midnight, but, if you’re needing a bit less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with all their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher models.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their main position or they tend to change things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their backbone.

Lastly, Helix Sleep recommends Helix for sleepers up to 350 lbs or couples that weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your spouse are substantially bigger than average, the company has also produced a bed called the Nightfall that is built to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Partners with different body types or tastes can also pick a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of these models seem quite right, you may always have a look at the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer compared to the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the collection).

Motion Transfer

Now, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is detectable from 1 side of the bed to the other. While this will be significant for many people, those who doze with a spouse may find it especially interesting as it’ll show just how bothered you may be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Casper Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

According to my research, Helix Sleep surpasses expectations for hybrid mattresses in this space due to the amount and quality of foam it incorporates, as well as the pocketed coils that help trap motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper worried that motion from the other side of the mattress will bother you, you should not have much concern with this mattress. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When getting a new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you are likely to encounter a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through those layers, you will hit the individually-wrapped coils and experience great support. This combination will interest a vast range of individuals, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit close to the edge of the mattress, the coils prevent the mattress from compressing too much . I feel very secure seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Partners who need more space to stretch out normally love stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I will fall off or be pushed off the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of purchasing a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials they typically include. Helix Sleep is not any different. You create the mattress that is intended for you, place your order, and in 2 weeks, it is sent to your home. From the moment you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it isn’t perfect, you can return it for free of charge, and get a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it isn’t restocked or resold. Actually, Helix locates a local place to donate it. When there is no way the company can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Casper Mattress Vs Helix Mattress

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers a generous 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, and the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of the manufacturer’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you will need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the mattress improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1” or more, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, you could be eligible for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s advised to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you clean using soft circular movements, rather than rubbing.
