Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses made using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Carnival Helix 9 Spa Balcony

Helix Sleep gives you complete mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a questionnaire that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress models; each individual model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of firmness and support:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep mattresses that have targeted cushioning conform closely, making them optimal for those who sleep on their side. While mattresses with moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are great for pretty much all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel more comfy on variants with balanced support, while those who weigh 130 lbs or more often prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with moderate cushioning and extra support). Both of these mattresses have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid developed for larger, heavier individuals. This mattress has an extra layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection conforms to sleepers with a wide variety of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also provide strong edge support, isolate motion transfer nicely, and create less noise than the normal hybrid. Carnival Helix 9 Spa Balcony

Construction Carnival Helix 9 Spa Balcony

All nine of the various iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density depending upon the foams utilized in order to get more/less firmness and more/less support. The four unique foams used within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all of the foams – some just have three of the four – but it really shouldn’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are just levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine unique mattresses (and supposedly have a model for everyone). Carnival Helix 9 Spa Balcony

Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of your average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Initially, all Helix mattresses come with exactly the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be pliable and thin, allowing for some nice breathability. However, if you prefer something more lavish, you can elect to swap out the regular cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material to regulate temperature.

Comfort Layer – On top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, which means you are likely to encounter some great body shaping. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firm mattress to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it generates quite a firm feel.

Transition Layer – After getting past the memory foam comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feeling as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this section of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Because the coils are individually wrapped, they are also likely to allow extra breathability as air flows through the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last but not least, you will uncover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This section doesn’t affect the feel of the bed too much, functioning mostly to provide the individually wrapped coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let’s discuss their varying feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will differ widely depending on which model you select. The Helix Dusk and Midnight, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific requirements, however, Helix Sleep is happy to oblige you with more options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer is soft and generates some quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials within the mattress work to control this and create an overall firmer composition. The pocketed coils and the firmer support foams also assist with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there’s just enough good comfort material in the Midnight to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier buyers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more models for you in the Helix Dawn and Helix Twilight models.

Many side sleepers will feel totally comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are wanting less pressure while still sticking with a versatile medium firmness, you may want to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that is breathable and provides the surface a little bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with all their weight on a tinier region. People who are lighter than average or those in the market for a lot of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach should feel comfortable in the Midnight, particularly if this is not their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Lastly, the manufacturer recommends Helix for sleepers around 350 pounds or couples who weigh up to 250 lbs each. In the event you or your spouse are significantly larger than average, the company has also created a bed called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a combined weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with different types of bodies or preferences can also pick a dual comfort option that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of those options seem quite right, you can always have a look at the four other mattresses in the newest collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, slightly firmer compared to the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest option of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be important for all people, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you may be by your partner’s nighttime movements. Carnival Helix 9 Spa Balcony

According to my research, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the individually wrapped coils that help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the mattress will wake you, then you shouldn’t have much concern with this mattress. I’d say that any of the Helix mattresses are a good choice for couples.

Sinkage

While purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of men and women would like to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking “into” the it or laying “on top” of it.

Even though you are likely to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the individually-wrapped coils and find fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

Though I do feel the memory foam collapse as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing a lot . I feel very secure seated on the mattress.

In my view, Helix mattresses are well above average for edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their freshly updated edges containing reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfy and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate stronger edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I can get close to the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll roll over or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

Among the best features of buying a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that is meant for you, place your order, and within a couple of weeks, it’s sent to your door. From the moment you click to purchase the mattress, you have 100 nights to test it out (minus the time for delivery, so it is more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free, and receive a full refund.

Should you return the mattress, it is not restocked or resold. Actually, Helix locates a local place to donate it. If there is no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, it’s recycled instead. Carnival Helix 9 Spa Balcony

Helix Warranty

Helix offers an amazing 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it has some limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the consumer (like most warranties). Of course, you must be the original owner of the mattress to use the guarantee, and you need to be sure you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you need to have a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats over 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress starts to have an indentation of 1 inch or longer, something that typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a replacement or repair of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no flipping, but it’s recommended that you rotate the mattress perhaps a couple of times a year to keep it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleaning, it’s advised to use cool water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Make sure that you clean using soft circular motions, instead of rubbing.
