Helix Sleep offers hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores reinforced with polyfoam base layers. C/Meo Helix Jumpsuit

Helix Sleep allows full mattress customization. Buyers are urged to fill out a survey that discusses their height, weight, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other options. Then based on these results, Helix Sleep will suggest one of the following six mattress models; each respective model provides a one-of-a-kind combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them perfect for those who sleep on their side. While those that have moderate cushioning do not conform as much and are great for all sleep positions. Lighter men and women may feel more comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more often favor the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also markets 2 variants with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with extra support and moderate cushioning). Both of these variants have one ‘Firm’ side and one ‘Soft’ side, which makes them great for couples with different tastes. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for bigger, heavier individuals. This model has an additional layer of memory foam for optimum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses found that the customizable selection accommodates sleepers with a large range of firmness preferences and body types. The mattresses also have strong edge support, isolate movement well, and create less noise than the average hybrid. C/Meo Helix Jumpsuit

Construction C/Meo Helix Jumpsuit

All nine of the various iterations of the mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be quite similar. The six core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in density and firmness depending on the foams utilized in order to get more/less support and more/less firmness. The 4 different foams utilized within Helix mattresses are memory foam, high-grade polyurethane foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the models have all the foams – some only have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull to be able to offer nine distinct versions (and hopefully have a model for everybody). C/Meo Helix Jumpsuit

Underneath, I briefly talk about the construction (materials and quality) of the typical Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100 percent polyester. I thought it to be thin and pliable, allowing for some nice breathability. But, if you would like something more luxurious, you can elect to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase change material for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you will discover a heavy layer of memory foam. This material has a slow response to pressure, which means you are probably going to experience some satisfying body shaping. While it might seem strange for a purportedly medium firmness mattress to make use of a memory foam comfort layer, it’s crucial to remember that the existence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in actuality, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After getting past the comfort layer, you’ll find a transition layer of poly foam. This layer of foam works to curb the sinkage of the comfort layer and create a supportive, medium firm feel as you reach the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – The majority of the mattress is made up of this segment of pocketed coils. This system gives a supportive lift to the construction, working to put the sleeper “on top” of the bed, as opposed to “in it”. Since these coils are individually wrapped, they’re also going to encourage additional breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Lastly, you will find a thin segment of high-density poly foam. This segment doesn’t really affect the feel of the mattress too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to react.

Firmness and Support

After taking a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their varying firmness levels and feels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix will vary widely depending on the model you pick out. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have moderate firmness levels, which tends to be quite versatile and thus very popular. If you have more specific preferences, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to provide you with additional options.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the uppermost foam comfort layer feels soft and generates some high quality body contouring, while the other materials in the Midnight work to counteract this and make an overall firmer structure. The individually-wrapped coils and the firmer support foams also help with re-positioning.

For back sleepers, there is just enough good comfort material here to conform to your lumbar while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For larger sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are 2 more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Many side sleepers will feel perfectly comfy on the Midnight, but, if you are needing less pressure while still sticking with a flexible medium firmness, you might decide to take a look at the Helix Dusk, which utilizes a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and gives the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure since they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. People who are lighter than average or people looking for plenty of pressure relief may want to stick to the plusher variants.

Those who sleep on their stomach will feel supported in the Midnight, especially if this isn’t their main position or they have a tendency to switch things up a lot. Firmer mattresses might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so they can make sure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their back.

Finally, Helix Sleep suggests Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners who weigh up to 250 pounds each. In the event you or your partner are substantially larger than average, the company has also created a mattress called the Nightfall that is created to accommodate a total weight of 1000 lbs.

Couples with differing body types or tastes can also pick a dual comfort variant that combines Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if neither of those options seem quite right, you could always check out the four other models in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (moderate feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest mattress in the line).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s chat about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that is noticeable from one side of the bed to the other. While this will be crucial for many sleepers, those who sleep with a partner may find it especially intriguing as it’ll show just how bothered you will be by your partner’s nighttime movements. C/Meo Helix Jumpsuit

Based on my observation, Helix Sleep exceeds expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it contains, as well as the individually wrapped coils which help trap motion at its source. If you’re a light sleeper afraid that movement from the opposite side of the mattress will wake you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I would say that any of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a brand-new mattress, the majority of people would like to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking “into” the it or lying “on top” of it.

Even though you’re likely to experience a little immediate sinkage from the uppermost foam layers, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to find the individually-wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

While I do feel the foam compress as I sit near the edge of the mattress, the coils prevent the mattress from compressing a lot beyond that. I feel very secured sitting on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses perform above average when it comes to edge support compared to other bed-in-a-box brands, and this is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil unit. There can be some compression at the comfort foams when you sit with your entire weight on the side, but lying on the side should feel comfortable and secure. Couples who want more space to stretch out normally love strong edges.

Laying down, I feel like I could get near the edge of the bed without feeling like I’ll fall off or be ejected from the mattress. Overall, I think that the Helix has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of purchasing a bed-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they typically include. Helix Sleep is no different. You customize the mattress that is made for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to buy the mattress, you’ve got 100 nights to check it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not ideal, you can return it for free, and receive a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it isn’t resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your refunded mattress, they have it recycled instead. C/Meo Helix Jumpsuit

Helix Warranty

Helix Sleep offers an amazing 10-year guarantee that covers defects, but it has limitations, exceptions, plus the burden of proof is on the purchaser (like most warranties). Needless to say, you must be the first owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure you save your receipt as proof of purchase.

As long as you follow all of Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty should be valid. That means you need to use a suitable base (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4” apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your mattress begins to show an indentation of 1 inch or more, which is what generally happens when low-density foams break down, then you could qualify for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses require no turning, but it is suggested that you rotate the mattress perhaps once or twice a year to prevent it from wearing down from excess sagging.

For regular cleanup, it’s suggested to use cold water along gentle dish soap to clean any stains or dirt. Be certain to clean using gentle circular motions, rather than rubbing.
