Helix Sleep markets hybrid mattresses manufactured using dual-layer covers, polyfoam comfort systems, and pocketed coil support cores fortified with polyfoam base layers. Bed Frame For Helix Mattress

Helix Sleep offers complete mattress customization. Customers are requested to complete a survey that asks for their weight, height, firmness preferences, sleep position, and other elements. Then based on these answers, Helix Sleep will recommend one of the following six mattress variants; each individual model gives a unique combination of support and firmness:

  • Helix Sunset: ‘Soft’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Moonlight: ‘Soft’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Midnight: ‘Medium’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dusk: ‘Medium’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and extra support
  • Helix Twilight: ‘Firm’ firmness, targeted cushioning, and balanced support
  • Helix Dawn: ‘Firm’ firmness, moderate cushioning, and additional support

Helix Sleep hybrids with targeted cushioning conform closely, which makes them ideal for those who sleep on their side. While hybrids that have moderate cushioning don’t conform as much and are suitable for all sleep positions. Lighter individuals may feel most comfortable on variants with balanced support, while people that weigh 130 pounds or more often prefer the models with additional support.

Helix Sleep also offers two models with dual-firmness, the Helix Dual Balanced (with targeted cushioning and balanced support) and the Helix Dual Extra (with additional support and moderate cushioning). Both these variants have one ‘Soft’ side and one ‘Firm’ side, which makes them suitable for couples with different preferences. Lastly, the Helix Nightfall is a hybrid designed for larger, heavier individuals. This variant has an additional layer of memory foam for maximum support.

My review of Helix Sleep mattresses discovered that the customizable aspect accommodates sleepers with a large variety of body types and firmness preferences. The mattresses also offer strong edge support, isolate motion transfer well, and produce less noise than the average hybrid. Bed Frame For Helix Mattress

Construction Bed Frame For Helix Mattress

All 9 of the different iterations of this mattress will differ slightly in construction, but for 6 of the 9 variants, the construction will be fairly similar. The 6 core models (listed above) are 10 inches tall, composed of 6 inches of individually wrapped coils and 4 inches of foam.

Helix mattresses vary in firmness and density based on the foams utilized in order to attain more/less support and more/less firmness. The four unique foams utilized within Helix mattresses are high-grade polyurethane foam, memory foam, Helix Dynamic Foam, and a DuraDense Foam (aka support foam). Not all the beds have all the foams – some just have 3 of the 4 – but it really won’t matter much for the consumer. The foams are merely levers that Helix Sleep can pull in order to offer 9 unique variants (and supposedly have a mattress for everybody). Bed Frame For Helix Mattress

Underneath, I briefly discuss the construction (materials and quality) of the average Helix mattress, the Helix Midnight.

helix-midnight-construction

Cover – Originally, all Helix mattresses have the same cover, made of 100% polyester. I thought it to be stretchy and thin, allowing for some great breathability. However, if you prefer something more luxurious, you can opt to swap out the normal cover for the UltraCool one, which is composed of a phase-change material for temperature regulation.

Comfort Layer – Up top, you’ll find a thick layer of memory foam. This type of foam has a slow reaction to pressure, meaning you’re probably going to experience some gratifying body contouring. While it might seem strange for a supposedly medium firmness bed to incorporate a memory foam comfort layer, it’s important to remember that the presence of deep sinkage doesn’t always translate to softness; in fact, most of the time it generates quite a firm feeling.

Transition Layer – After sinking through the comfort layer, you will uncover a transition layer of poly foam. This layer works to curb the sinkage of the memory foam and set a supportive, medium firm feel as you hit the pocketed coils underneath.

Support Layer – Most of the mattress consists of this segment of individually wrapped coils. This system gives a supportive lift into the construction, working to position the sleeper “on top” of the mattress, as opposed to “in it”. Because these coils are wrapped individually, they are also likely to encourage extra breathability as air flows in between the spaces in the coils.

Base Layer – Last, you’ll discover a thin section of high-density poly foam. This layer does not affect the feel of the bed too much, working mostly to provide the pocketed coils something off of which to respond.

Firmness and Support

After having a peek at the construction of the Helix mattresses, let us discuss their different feels and firmness levels.

helix-mattress-firmness-and-support-scale

The firmness level of the Helix is going to differ widely depending on the model you select. The Helix Midnight and Dusk, have medium firmness levels, which will be very versatile and therefore very popular. If you have more specific needs, however, Helix Sleep will be happy to oblige you with additional choices.

Laying down on the Helix Midnight, the memory foam layer is soft and produces some top quality body contouring, while the rest of the materials in the mattress work to counteract this and make an overall firmer composition. The firmer support foams and individually-wrapped coils also help with re-positioning.

For those who sleep on their back, there’s just enough good comfort material in the mattress to conform to your lower spine while supporting your upper spine in a neutral position. For heavier sleepers or people who prefer a firmer bed, there are two more choices for you in the Helix Twilight and Helix Dawn models.

Majority of side sleepers will feel perfectly comfortable on the Midnight, but, if you are needing a bit less pressure while still going with a versatile medium firmness, you may decide to check out the Helix Dusk, which uses a body-conforming latex-alternative foam that’s breathable and provides the surface a small bit of bounce.

Those who sleep on their side typically have to be more mindful of pressure because they sleep with most their weight on a smaller area. People who are smaller than average or those looking for lots of pressure relief might want to stay with the plusher models.

Stomach sleepers will feel supported in the Midnight, particularly if this isn’t their primary position or they tend to switch things up a lot. Firmer choices might be preferable for exclusive tummy sleepers so that they can ensure their hips don’t dip and over-arch their spine.

Finally, Helix Sleep recommends Helix mattresses for sleepers around 350 lbs or partners who weigh a maximum of 250 pounds each. If you or your partner are substantially bigger than average, Helix has also produced a mattress called the Nightfall that’s made to accommodate a total weight of 1000 pounds.

Couples with differing types of bodies or preferences may also select a dual comfort variant that pairs Firm with Plush.

Keep in mind that if none of those options sound right, you could always have a look at the 4 other mattresses in the new collection: the Sunset (plush, softer than the Moonlight), Dusk (medium feel, a little firmer than the Midnight), Twilight (firm, designed for side sleepers), or Dawn (the firmest variant of the bunch).

Motion Transfer

Next up, let’s talk about motion transfer, or the amount of disturbance that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. While this will be crucial for all sleepers, those who doze with a partner may find it particularly intriguing as it’ll illuminate just how bothered you’ll be by your bed mate’s nighttime movements. Bed Frame For Helix Mattress

Based on my observation, Helix surpasses expectations for hybrids in this space because of the quantity and quality of foam it incorporates, in addition to the pocketed coils that help keep motion at its source. If you are a light sleeper concerned that motion from the other side of the mattress will wake you, you shouldn’t have a lot of concern with this hybrid. I’d say that all of the Helix mattresses would be a good option for couples.

Sinkage

When purchasing a new mattress, most individuals would like to know whether they’ll feel like they are sinking “into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it.

While you are likely to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the pocketed coils and feel amazing support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

While I do feel the memory foam compress as I sit near the edge of the bed, the individually-wrapped coils prevent the mattress from collapsing too much . I feel quite secured seated on the bed.

In my opinion, Helix mattresses are well above average when it comes to edge support in comparison to other bed-in-a-box brands, which is because of their newly updated edges that contain reinforcement in the coil system. There can be a little compression in the comfort foams when you sit with all your weight on the side, but laying on the side should feel comfortable and safe. Couples who want more space to stretch out typically appreciate strong edges.

Laying down, I also feel like I could get close to the edge of the mattress without feeling like I’ll roll off or be ejected from the bed. Overall, I believe that the Helix mattress has nice edge support.

100 Night Sleep Trial

One of the best features of buying a mattress-in-a-box online is the sleep trials that they usually include. Helix is not any different. You create the mattress that’s intended for you, place your order, and within two weeks, it is sent to your home. From the minute you click to order the mattress, you have 100 nights to try it out (minus the time for delivery, so it’s more like 90 nights). If it is not what you wanted, you can return it for free of charge, and get a complete refund.

If you do return the mattress, it is not resold or restocked. Actually, Helix Sleep locates a local place to donate it. When there’s no way Helix can find a way to donate your returned mattress, it is recycled instead. Bed Frame For Helix Mattress

Helix Warranty

Helix offers an awesome 10-year warranty that covers defects, but it comes with a few limitations, exceptions, while the burden of proof is on the customer (like most warranties). Of course, you should be the original owner of the mattress to make use of the guarantee, and you will need to be sure that you keep your receipt as proof of purchase.

Provided that you follow all Helix’s expectations for use, your warranty is valid. That means you will need to use a proper foundation (no adjustable bed frames or slats more than 4 inches apart) and that you don’t use the Helix improperly – no jumping on it!

If your Helix begins to have an indentation of 1” or longer, which is what typically happens when low-density foams break down, then you could be eligible for a repair or replacement of your Helix.

What’s The Best Way To Care For Your Helix?

Helix mattresses need no flipping, but it’s suggested that you rotate the mattress possibly a couple of times a year to prevent it from wearing down from excessive sagging.

For routine cleanup, it’s advised to use cool water with gentle dish soap to clean any dirt or stains. Make sure to wash using gentle circular movements, rather than rubbing.
